Update: Twenty passengers aboard bus on fire

FIREFIGHTERS were called out to an incident when a bus was on fire this afternoon.

The drama happened in High Street, Colchester at the North Hill junction at around 3.45pm.

A spokeswoman for Essex County Fire and Rescue said that “approximately 20 passengers” were on board when the fire started.

The driver then evacuated them safely before the fire crews arrived at the scene.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel and foam to tackle the fire. Crews reported that the engine and rear of the vehicle were on fire when they arrived at the scene.

The fire crews had the fire under control just after 4.10pm.

The fire spokeswoman said that no one was injured in the incident.
