A road in Little Clacton was closed in both directions after a wide vehicle, which was carrying a caravan, hit a pole and caused cables to fall.
The cables had been hanging in St Osyth Road since around 3.30pm.
Police called electricity engineers to the scene to assess the situation.
A force spokesman said the driver had continued on their way despite getting out to see what had happened.
He added that no-one had been hurt. The road was closed between the junction for Little Clacton Road and the A133 junction.
It reopened at around 7pm. Police are carrying out their enquires. Anyone with information should call 101.
