A BUSY village road was closed after a lorry transporting a super yacht to Ipswich Marina broke down.

Suffolk police was alerted to the incident on the B1113 in Sproughton just after 1pm.

A spokesman said: “We had a message to say the people transporting the load had broken down just before The Wild Man pub so we have had to close the road.”

A source at Norwich-based Abbey Transport Ltd said the luxury 2m 78ft Fairline Cruiser was on its way from a boat yard in Oundle, Northamptonshire, to Ipswich Marina, when a hydraulic pipe gave way in the trailer, forcing the convoy to stop.

The yacht has been travelling across Anglia for two days supported by Cambridgeshire and Suffolk police and stopped off in Quy Bridge layby last night, before moving into Suffolk this morning.

It is not known if the yacht was on its way to a new owner or a Fairline testing facility in Ipswich.

The B1113 road was blocked in both directions between the Burstall Lane junction and the Fitzgerald Road junction.

Alison Cronin, who lives in nearby Lower Street, said: “It’s causing problems with people having to turn around and find alternative routes.

“You can turn down towards The Beagle but can’t go towards Bramford village.

“I’m concerned about how my daughter’s school bus from Claydon High School, which uses the route, is going to get here.”

A repair team has now got the lorry moving, but the clean up of fuel or hydraulic fluid is causing some delays.
