The A1065 has now reopened after explosive experts found a suspicious vehicle at the RAF base to be safe.
As a precautionary measure, the Ministry of Defence closed the A1065 and evacuated personnel from the area and several surrounding facilities.
MOD Explosive Ordinance Disposal has checked the vehicle and declared it safe. Officials said the flagged substance was identified as a fertilizer-like material.
The suspicious vehicle alerted base officials at Gate 1 at 9am. The gate has also reopened.
