Vandals who hacked down a tree in an Ipswich recreation ground were today condemned as “mindless”.
The ruined silver birch in Cherry Lane recreation ground was discovered on Sunday morning by Ipswich council's Park Patrol staff.
A spokesman said: “It looked like it had been hacked down with an axe on Saturday night. We have reported it to the Police and are arranging for it to be removed from the recreation ground.
“It is such a mindless act of vandalism and we hope that anyone who knows anything about this incident contacts the Police. We believe the birch is between 10 and 15 years old.”
