Around 11.15pm last night a white Vauxhall Vectra collided with a house in High Road, Trimley St Mary, near the junction with Station Road.

It is thought the female driver ran away from the scene after the incident and that the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, police, and the ambulance service attended, with three fire engines sent to the scene.

It is not believed anyone was injured in the crash, but homeowner Brian Aldous, aged 77, said both he and his wife were in the home at the time.

He said while they were both upstairs at the time, his wife was in the bedroom directly above the living room where the car ended up.

Structural engineers have since assessed the property and will try to start removing the car today.

“I wasn’t in there (the living room),” Mr Aldous said. “If I had been I don’t think I would be here. I’m still shaking.”

“Everybody in the area was very supportive and they were in the garden before I was.”

Mr Aldous described hearing a bang and coming downstairs to find the car had hit his house.

He added it was the third time a car had collided with his property in the last five years, but this was the worst outcome of the trio.

Asked whether something needed to be done to stop a reoccurrence Mr Aldous said: “I think so because it’s a very busy junction.

“I can’t presume to know what goes on but each one has come from a different direction.”
