AERIAL photographer Mike Page has been documenting progress on the construction project to dual the A11 between Fiveways and Thetford.

This week Mr Page and pilot Dan Gay took to the skies to see how work is progressing.

Work on the A11 improvement scheme officially got under way at the start of the year – and parts of the new dual carriageway could be opened as early as June.

The £134m Fiveways to Thetford project will widen 5.5 miles of the road – a key route between the M11 and Norwich – and build a new 3.6 mile bypass around the village of Elveden, from Chalk Hall Farm to Thetford roundabout.

Once completed, the Highways Agency scheme is expected to bring a significant boost to the economy, reduce congestion and improve road safety.

The 9.1 miles of road is due to be completed by December 2014.

Already, as these images show, the landscape on either side of the road has changed significantly and the beginnings of the new road can be seen clearly.

Geoff Chatfield, Highways Agency project manager, recently said: “Things are going well on the A11 scheme at the moment, we are on programme and making good progress.”
