Part of Aldeburgh beach was cordoned off at lunchtime today after a fishermen arrived home with an unusual catch.
While the trawler crew might have thought they had the haul of the day, the heavy object in their nets turned out to be part of an old plane – possibly from World War Two.
Initially though it was thought the object, which was about two metres long, might have been more dangerous, possibly part of a bomb.
Officials from HM Coastguard sealed off a stretch of about 100metres of shore at 1pm while more investigations were carried out.
The receiver of wreckage were notified, but it is not of value and has been left for the Suffolk County Council to clear.
