Views around two villages

An undulating, interesting walk around the parishes of Buxhall and Rattlesden with good views of Rattlesden village and church. This walk is done on well maintained paths and tracks.

With your back to the pub turn left, then a quick left. Just after passing the old school house on your right turn right by a footpath sign. You will soon be faced by a field, turn left walking on a path with a field to your right. Cross a sleeper bridge and immediately turn right, having a hedge to your right. When you come to a footpath sign to your right, turn right, having a hedge to your right. You will then come out onto a gravel drive, turn left for a few paces then right, soon having a hedge to your left and you will then come onto another gravel drive, where you should turn left, soon having a hedge to your right.

At a footpath sign on your left, turn left having a fence to your right. When the fence goes right, turn right with it. At a footpath sign to your left turn right. When you come to a T-junction of paths turn right, then a quick left and then left through a gap in the hedge and immediately right, now having a hedge to your right, at a T junction of paths, turn right across a footbridge and after about 20 paces turn left across another footbridge, then carry straight on across a field.

You will then come out onto a road, turn left. By a footpath sign turn right and when you come to a T-junction of roads turn right with The Brewers Arms on your right. The road you are on will immediately swing to the left, leave it and carry straight on into Birds Green. When you come to a ‘V’in the road turn left. When you come to a footpath sign on your left carry on in the same direction having a car park to your left. After passing a sewage treatment plant to your right carry on in the same direction.

You will then come to a stile, cross this and carry on in the same direction, crossing three more stiles, then carry on in the same direction up a bank by a footpath sign now having a field to your right. At the field boundary cross a bridge and immediately turn right having a ditch to your right. When you come to a footbridge cross it and turn left having a ditch to your left. You will then come to a plank bridge cross it and carry on In the same direction. At the field boundary turn right and when you come to a wide gap in the hedge, go through it and bear right by footpath sign and then almost immediately swing left with the path.

When the hedge to your right ceases turn right having a hedge to your left. Just before you come to an electric pylon in front of you turn left having a ditch to your right. When you come to a gap in the hedge to your right go through it and across a plank bridge and immediately turn left, you will then go through a gap in the hedge, turn right. You will then come to a stile, cross this into a meadow, cross this diagonally right. Once across go through a gap in the hedge and carry on in the same direction having a hedge to your right. You will then come out onto a road, turn left and back to your starting point.
