CLAUS Vissing is looking forward to becoming part of the Ipswich Witches speedway family following his winter move from fellow Elite League outfit Peterborough.

The 23-year-old Dane has switched from the East of England showground to Foxhall Stadium in his quest to ride a smaller circuit.

But there is another reason the rider, who started his British career with Stoke in 2007, cannot wait for the 2010 speedway season to begin.

“Peterborough is run like a business,” said Vissing while looking out on 20 centimetres of snow in his native Denmark.

“I've been told that Ipswich is more of a family club and that they talk nicely to each other.

“I'm looking forward to being part of that.

“When Chris Louis came on the telephone and asked what I thought about joining Ipswich it didn't take me long to decide that I wanted the move.”

Vissing, who will start in the team proper with an average of 4.53 gained with the Panthers last year, is keeping fit doing boxing training and exercising in the gym.

He is planning to ride for the first time in 2010 in Croatia a week before he turns up at Foxhall for the Witches press and practice days in the middle of March.

“Chris (Louis) has been keeping me informed about the track alterations at Foxhall, and it looks to be a positive move,” added Vissing.

“I am more at home on smaller tracks and wanted a move from the big circuit at Peterborough.

“So when Ipswich came in it was ideal although it will be a longer drive from my Wolverhampton base.”

Vissing has signed to ride in the Polish League for Lodz and in the Danish League for Fjelsted, but he is not anticipating riding in the Swedish League.

“I will be based for the season with my mechanic Gary Corbett in Wolverhampton so don't want too much travelling out of the country,” Vissing went on.

“It's a big year for me, and I want to ensure I do enough to stay in the Ipswich team proper.

“I've had some good meetings at Foxhall and I don't want to slip down into a reserve berth. And I also want my career to benefit from riding on a preferred small circuit.”

Vissing is looking for English sponsorship, and any interested concern can get in touch with him through the Witches club.
