A charitable volunteer has made sure a night of country and western classics raised hundreds of pounds for the hospice she supports.

Lorraine Street, who gives her time to St Nicholas Hospice Care as a volunteer in its Brandon shop, has raised £370 for the charity.

The money was raised through a country and western evening, which took place in Brandon’s Royal Legion Club.

Lorraine, who has volunteered for the hospice for five years, said: “Everyone really had a brilliant time and we are so pleased with how it all went. The music was great and everyone had a great time dancing. The girls also did brilliantly with organising the raffle and we had so much support.”

The occasion, which also featured a raffle and fancy dress competition was a sell-out, and will help the hospice continue to care for people across the community coping with long-term and life threatening illnesses.

“I absolutely love volunteering for the hospice. I started five years ago as I was finding it difficult to find a new job and I needed something to do. It’s been five years and I haven’t looked back. I really enjoy it,” added Lorraine.

The charitable night, which centred on country music by Pat James, took place on Saturday, September 30.
