AN unexploded World War Two ordnance has been uncovered off the north Essex coast by a Belgian Navy vessel.
The vessel was carrying out a fishing survey when the item was pulled from the sea on Wednesday.
The coastguard was contacted and a Royal Navy bomb disposal team arrived at Walton this morning to carry out a controlled explosion.
With the Thames coastguard team co-ordinating the proceedings, at just before 11am the ordnance was taken to a remote spot near Walton and the explosion was carried out.
