Shocking CCTV footage of the moment a car knocked a man off his scooter on a zebra crossing before speeding off has been released by police in a bid to trace the driver.

The hit-and-run happened on Old Road, Clacton at around 1.15pm on Saturday, September 2.

A light green Ford Focus hit a 22-year-old man while he was using a zebra crossing outside a medical centre.

The car failed to stop and reversed away, driving off down St Andrews Road.

The footage shows members of the public rushing to help the man after the collision.

The victim was taken to Colchester Hospital with minor injuries, a spokesman for Essex Police said.

Police are particularly keen to speak to those who came to the man’s aid.
