A man has died after he was found unconscious in a pond in Wattisham.

The man, in his 50s, was discovered in the water at a property in Clay Hill Lane just before 6pm yesterday.

It is understood he was a builder carrying out work at the home.

Three ambulance vehicles were sent to the scene with volunteer Dr Andy Mason from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) charity.

A spokesman for SARS said: “The man was found in a critical condition and was flown to Ipswich Hospital by an RAF Sea King helicopter from nearby Wattisham Airfield.

“The SARS doctor and an East of England Ambulance Service paramedic accompanied the patient to hospital in the aircraft.

“Despite everyone’s best efforts the man died in hospital overnight. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
