A weather presenter judged a children’s weather and wildlife photography and poetry competition in Harwich.
Laura Tobin, meteorologist on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, also presented prizes to the winners at an event held at Harwich and Dovercourt High School.
The competition was open to students at the school as well as pupils from local primary schools, and staff.
Prizes won included digital cameras, Kindle Fires, ferry tickets, Thames river boat tickets and shopping vouchers.
Andrew Dace, school library manager, said: “We had a fantastic response from children. The entries we received were outstanding and there were some really excellent efforts.
“To have such a high profile personality as Laura agree to judge and to then come to our school is a real coup.
“She gave a fascinating and very informative presentation about her work as a weather presenter and some of the science behind weather forecasting.
“When Laura awarded the prizes she made positive comments about why she had chosen a particular poem or photo as one of her favourites, and it was lovely for the children to receive such wonderful feedback. I’m sure that is something they will treasure.
“The comments I’ve had about Laura’s visit have been brilliant, both pupils and staff were thrilled to meet her. She is a lovely lady.
“I would like to give a huge thank you to all those firms and organisations who very generously made donations to the competitions.”
Mr Dace has already begun planning next year’s competitions.
