The driver of a Peugeot car was today fighting for his life after an early-morning accident on the Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border.

Only one car is believed to have been involved in the accident at Cemetery Hill in Exning, near Newmarket, which was reported to the police just after 4.30am on Saturday.

It is believed the driver was the only occupant of the silver Peugeot 206. He is a man in his 20s from Cambridgeshire.

He was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge where he was being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries to his head and neck.

The road was closed for some time while police carried out investigations into the accident – although it was reopened during the late morning.
