The occupant of a property in Carlton Colville had to leave their home after a wheelie bin was set alight.
Three bins had been left by a side porch at the property in Staplehurst Close and the resident awoke around 11.45pm on Tuesday to a crackling noise.
He went down to see what was happening, opened the door and found smoke coming into his home and firefighters outside.
It is thought one of the wheelie bins had been set alight earlier in the evening and this then spread to the other bins and the porch.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area between these times or anyone with information about who started the fire to call Lowestoft CID by dialling Suffolk Police on 101, quoting crime number LO/15/5207.
