The highly-anticipated royal fly-past is set to take place today – and people will be able to see the military aircraft in the skies at various locations in Suffolk and north Essex.
Trooping the Colour will take place this morning. This yearly ceremony has marked the official birthday of the British Sovereign for over 260 years.
The various military aircraft will form up at Southwold and progress towards Ipswich, past Colchester, above Chelmsford and enter the London City Control Zone south of Stapleford aerodrome.
The formation will then fly over Buckingham Palace at 1pm where members of the Royal family will be waiting and watching on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
For security reasons exact timings and locations to see the fly-by can’t be released. However, if you have witnessed the fly-past in Suffolk before it will be similar.
The aircraft thought to be taking part are Puma, Chinook, BBMF Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, A400M Atlas, C17 Globemaster III, Voyager, two Typhoons, four Tornado GR4s, and nine Red Arrows.
At the ceremony more than 1,400 officers and men will be on parade, along with 200 horses and 400 musicians to mark the Queen’s big day.
The Trooping the Colour parade officially begins when the Queen leaves Buckingham Palace in a carriage.
Her Majesty will then travel down the Mall and progress towards Horse Guard’s Parade at Whitehall, with other members of the Royal Family alongside on horseback and in carriages.
When the Queen gets there, she will be greeted by a royal salute from the soldiers on parade, before inspecting the troops.
The colours will be then be carried down the ranks and presented to the soldiers. The Queen then leads the troops back down the Mall to Buckingham Palace for a second salute, and the official trooping is over.
Her Majesty has done this ceremony every single year apart from in 1955 when there was a rail strike.
Events will begin at approximately 10am and will be broadcast live on the BBC.
Members of the public wishing to watch are advised to stand on The Mall or on the edge of St James’s Park overlooking Horse Guard’s from 9am.
