Don’t get caught out, take a look at the major roadworks that will be taking place across the East of England this week.

A11 Norfolk and Suffolk: vegetation clearance

Overnight work to improve journeys by clearing overhanging vegetation along the A11 verges continues this week between Newmarket and Norwich for up to nine weeks. Lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on northbound or southbound overnight, between 8pm and 6am.

A11 Red Lodge to Newmarket southbound: resurfacing

On the A11 from Red Lodge between Newmarket heading towards the A14, the safety barrier on the southbound carriageway will be replaced. A single lane closure remains in place on southbound section between 8pm and 6am on the A11. A mandatory 40mph speed restriction will be in force 24/7 this week.

A12 junctions 24 Kelvedon north to 23 Kelvedon south, Essex: bridge repair

Work to maintain safety by repairing the Ewell Bridge continues this week. The damaged pedestrian bridge over the A12 remains closed 24/7 while repair work continues. Pedestrians will be diverted to use the alternative route.

The A12 northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday, October 16, for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B1024 via Kelvedon.

A14 westbound Girton to Huntingdon: resurfacing and repairs

Overnight resurfacing and carriageway repair work will start on Monday, October 16, for 10 weeknights (working 8pm to 6am) and will finish by 6am on Saturday, October 28, weather permitting. While work takes place there will be a full A14 westbound road closure and diversion in place overnight only from junction 31 Girton interchange to junction 23 Spittals interchange, plus, a full M11 northbound road closure and signed diversion from junction 13 at Madlingley to join the signed diversion route. A14 through traffic will be directed west on the A428 towards St Neots, north on the A1 towards Peterborough and east on the A14 at Brampton Hut to re-join the A14 westbound at junction 23 Spittals. M11 traffic will be directed to exit at junction 13 Madlingley and head west on the A1303 and A428 to join the diversion route above. M11 traffic wishing to join the A14 eastbound will be directed at the A428 Hardwick Interchange east towards Cambridge. The A14 westbound will remain open for local traffic only between junction 31 Girton and junction 27 Fenstanton. The A1307 Huntingdon Road, Cambridge will also be open for local traffic wishing to join the A14 westbound.

A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire: major improvements

Construction work on the new A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon scheme is now well underway. There are a variety of tasks being carried out which will result in the closure of lanes or carriageways on the A1, A14 and some local roads, usually overnight between 8pm and 6am, unless otherwise stated. A clearly signed diversion route will always be in place for closures. For this week, the planned closures are:

B1113 Bramford Road, Great Blakenham: kerb replacements

There will works to the kerbs outside home as part of the Orbit Homes project section 278, from Tuesday, October 10, until Friday, November 10, and there will be temporary traffic lights in place.

Full Closures

Saturday, October 21, and Sunday, October 22, (two nights) 8pm to 10am

• A14 eastbound junction 32 exit slip road. A signed diversion will be in place. Vehicles will be diverted east to junction 33, then return westwards to leave A14 via the junction 32 westbound exit slip road.

Lane Closures

Tuesday, October 17, to Friday, October 20, (four nights)

• A14 eastbound between junction 28 and junction 29, lane one closed.

Tuesday, October 17 (one night)

• A14 eastbound between junction 30 to junction 31, lanes two and three closed.

Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22 (two nights)

• A14 eastbound between junction 31 and junction 32, lane one closed

A47 Norfolk: vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing overhanging vegetation along the A47 verges continues this week between Acle and Lowestoft. Mobile lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for up to four weeks, weather permitting.

A14 Newmarket to Felixstowe: vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing overhanging vegetation along the A14 verges starts on Monday, October 16, between Newmarket and Felixstowe eastbound and westbound (on average 4km per night). Single lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for up to ten weeks, weather permitting.

A47 Links Road to Rackham’s Corner, Lowestoft: surveys

Overnight survey work continues for five nights southbound (8pm to 6am) on the A47 (formerly A12). While the A47 is closed at Links Road, traffic will be directed to follow the A143 and B1370 to re-join the A47 at Middleton Road roundabout. Surveys on the northbound carriageway will start on Monday, October 30, for five nights (8pm to 6am) using the above diversion in reverse.

A120 Hare Green Roundabout Harwich Road: safety improvement

Site investigations and vegetation clearance work will continue throughout the week. There will be traffic management on site but this will have no impact on any road users. For updates on these improvements visit their page.
