Firefighters were called to a blaze involving 200 tonnes of horse manure.

The fire broke out at Grove Farm Stud, Attleton Green, Wickhambrook, near Newmarket, at around 11am on Sunday.

On arrival the fire crew requested a water carrier from Newmarket as the manure was said to be “well alight”.

The firefighters were anxious to ensure the blaze did not spread to a nearby barn containing 200 tonnes of straw and 100 tonnes of grain.

Following a re-inspection of the incident at 7am today crews from Wickhambrook and the water bowser from Newmarket were called for.

They are using two hose reel jets with the farmer using a loader to assist. Damping down is in progress and a fire break has been established.
