One lane of the northbound A12 was closed at Witham following a collision between a car and a lorry.
The lane was closed between Junction 22, the B1389 at Witham and Junction 23, the B1024 at London Road, Kelvedon.
There is currently congestion back to the Boreham Interchange.
All lanes had reopened by 7.45pm.
