A driver failed to stop after hitting a 71-year-old woman with their car while she was standing on a grass verge in an Essex village.

The collision happened around 12pm on Saturday, September 2, in Dedham Road, close to the Boathouse Restaurant in Dedham, near Colchester.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “The victim was knocked over and suffered an injury to her arm.”

Officers believe the vehicle that fled the scene was a dark grey 2009 Fiat Panda, which may have damage to a nearside wing mirror.

The car drove off towards Dedham High Street.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Pc Andrew Egerton at Stanway Roads Policing Unit on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Essex Police is also appealing for witnesses to a separate hit-and-run crash in Old Road, Clacton on the same day at around 1.15pm.
