A road has been closed as emergency services work at the scene of a serious accident where a car has crashed into a tree.
The B1027 near Wivenhoe, Colchester, has been shut – with a man in his 20s taken to hospital.
Fire crews were called at around 7.20pm to the road, near the University of Essex, where the man was trapped in the vehicle.
They used cutting gear to remove the vehicle’s roof – he was freed by about 8pm.
A spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Service said two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a doctor from the charity BASICS were sent.
She described the collision as a “high-speed crash” but was unable to give any details on the man’s medical condition.
He has been taken to Colchester General Hospital.
