A 22-year-old woman has been charged with seven assaults, including two on police officers, after a fracas broke out at a pub.

All the allegations arose out of an incident at The Bell Inn in Walberswick.

Saffron Betts, of Hotson, Road, Southwold, is due to appear before North Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Lowestoft for the first hearing of her case later this month.

Tim Cracknell, a spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said Betts had been charged with six counts of assault by beating in relation to the reported incident at the 600-year-old pub, near to the River Blyth.

One of the alleged common assaults is said to have been on a male police officer.

Betts is also charged with threatening behaviour and criminal damage of a phone.

Both these charges are said to have occurred at The Bell Inn.

A ninth accusation involves another alleged assault by beating at Great Yarmouth police investigation centre after Betts’ arrest.

The victim is said to have been a female police officer.

All the allegations occurred after police were called to the Bell Inn in Ferry Road, Walberswick, at 11.35pm on December 5 last year, following reports of a scuffle.

Betts is currently on bail until her court appearance, which is scheduled for March 30.
