The air ambulance was called to the A12 at the Wangford bypass at around 5.40pm following reports that a woman had been injured in a car crash involving two vehicles.

She was trapped in her car, and was freed by firefighters who removed the roof by around 6.34pm.

Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening but she was airlifted to hospital as a precaution.

A police spokeswoman said: “An air ambulance landed at the scene, and took one woman to hospital. Her injuries have been described as non-life threatening and the rest of the people involved in the collision have been described as walking wounded.”

The A12 was blocked southbound near to the bypass, causing long delays for drivers.

The road has now re-opened.
