Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman and her guide dog were attacked as they walked near a coffee shop in Essex.

Essex Police want to hear from anyone with information about the incident, being treated as an assault, which happened in Old Heath Road on Friday.

The victim, in her 50s, was walking near to the Bakeoffee café with her guide dog when the assault took place.

The woman’s guide dog was attacked by a black Staffordshire bull terrier.

The guide dog was unharmed, according to police, but the woman was then assaulted by a man, who was believed to have been the owner of the Staffordshire bull terrier.

The woman was also unharmed, but police said she was left shaken by the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Colchester’s local policing team on 101, quoting the incident number 897 of 15/06.
