Police and ambulance crews were called to a flat in Queen's Road at about 9.20pm last night where they discovered the body of a 61-year-old man.
A 59-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held at an Essex police station.
The area surrounding the building has been sealed off for forensic examinations, but it is not yet known how the man died.
