A woman cut free from a car by firefighters after a two-vehicle crash involving a taxi in Suffolk was in hospital on Friday night.

Emergency crews including an air ambulance were called to Church Walk, Long Melford after a red Honda Civic collided with a silver London Taxi TX11 at around 4.15pm.

Firefighters stabilised the Honda and used hydraulic cutting gear to free the woman. She was rescued by 5pm and taken by land ambulance to hospital, believed to be West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds, police said.

She suffered serious injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Police did not arrest or question anyone at the scene.

The road was closed in both directions before re-opening at 5.50pm.
