A woman is in hospital after being retrieved from the sea off the coast of Harwich, Essex.

A spokesman for Essex Police said the woman, who had been missing, was alive, but details of her condition are not yet available.

Thames Coastguard said it received reports of a woman in the water at about 5.15pm and tasked the team from Walton on the Naze to rescue her.

The police helicopter was also involved in rescuing the woman, who has been taken to Ipswich Hospital.
