Police are linking an attack on a man in Woodbridge with a similar incident that has since reported to officers.

Renewed appeals have been made for information on the first assault, which left a man in his 40s with bruising and a possible broken nose, as news emerged of a second similar incident nearby.

The victim of the first reported assault was with his granddaughter when he was attacked in the car park near the Deben Swimming Pool at about 10.50pm, following Jubilee celebrations on Monday night. It is thought he had asked a male who was walking past him to watch his language and was punched and kicked to the ground by his attacker, who then walked off towards the town centre, possibly towards Market Hill.

It has since been reported that a second assault took place 20 minutes earlier in nearby Station Road, where a male of similar description became aggressive towards two men and a woman and began to swing punches, hitting one of the men and the woman before running off. Moments later the male returned and struck the other man in the back of the head before again running off.

The victim of the initial attack described his attacker as white, around 5ft 11in, slim, with dark hair and wearing a dark jacket and a plain white T-shirt.

The second report was of a white male, between 5ft 10in and 5ft 11in, of slim to medium build, in his early twenties, with short brown spiky hair and wearing a grey hooded top, white T-shirt and dark blue jeans.

Police are linking the two incidents and are asking anyone with information to get in touch immediately. Officers believe that there are people who know who committed the assaults and are urging them to come forward.
