Land occupied by a derelict police station is set to be auctioned off – weeks after permission was granted for its conversion into homes.

Whoever buys Woodbridge’s old police station, in Grundisburgh Road, will also be getting permission to build 14 apartments.

The site is expected to sell for £925,000 but could reap four times that figure in gross development value following construction.

Last month, Marden Homes won planning permission at the third time of asking – having been twice turned down before Suffolk Coastal agreed that revisions had addressed previous concerns.

Although local policy requires one in three new homes to be affordable, planning officers were satisfied that Marden Homes complied with an exemption to the rule, by proving that economies of provision would make it unviable.

The site will be auctioned off by Dedman Gray at the Holiday Inn, Southend Airport, on March 29.
