Out of 2,000 women, almost two thirds said they had been sexually harassed in a club, pub or bar – we asked people in Ipswich what they thought about the issue.

Charity Drinkaware questioned 2,000 women aged 18-24 about sexual harassment on nights out.

Of those surveyed, 600 of the women said inappropriate comments or touching was “just part of a night out”.

The charity also questioned 1,000 men aged 18-24, and found that a quarter of them had been sexually harassed in a bar, club or pub, too.

Drinkaware are launching a campaign to encourage people who see anyone being sexually harassed on a night out to intervene.

The campaigners said you should follow these three steps.

1. Spot it – is something dodgy happening?

2. Check it – is it safe to step in?

3. Speak out – if it’s safe to do so, check in with the person being targeted. Are they OK? If not, try staff or security.
