Construction work began this week on the ice rink, forming the central part of Winter Wonderland in Castle Park.

Up to 70,000 visitors will descend on Colchester’s first ice skating rink when it opens on November 27.

Once the base is in place, 45,000 litres of water will be sprayed onto the floor to create a real ice surface for skaters.

Ben Payne of Reflective Ice LTD said: “We really believe that alongside the ice skating, shopping market, fairground rides and food & drink there’s something for everyone.”

The rink opens from November 27 to January 3, excluding Christmas Day.
