A WORKER who suffered terrible head injuries after falling 15 feet from a roof onto a concrete floor has died in hospital.

Police yesterday described the incident which claimed the life of the 57-year-old Brandon man Anthony King as a "tragic industrial accident", and said they were not treating his death as suspicious.

Ambulance crews were called to the Gorse Industrial Estate in Barnham, near Thetford at around 5.15pm on Friday. Paramedics quickly called for assistance from East Anglia's air ambulance, which transported Mr King to a specialist head injuries unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "The patient deteriorated rapidly while being treated by the land crew, who provided initial critical care treatment including oxygen and spinal immobilisation.

"Paramedics from Anglia One arrived and liaised with the land crew.

"They continued the care that had already been initiated and the patient was placed in the helicopter with the rotors running due to the severe nature of his injuries.

"He was then transported to specialised care at Addenbrooke's Hospital, where he was handed over to a full resuscitation team."

But despite the best efforts from medical staff, Mr King died of his injuries during Saturday evening. The Health and Safety Executive will now investigate the circumstances surrounding his fall. It is not yet known whether Mr King was employed at the site or was working as an external contractor.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said: "Officers attended the industrial accident at approximately 6.15pm on Friday, after a male had fallen from the roof.

"The 57-year-old man from Brandon was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, where unfortunately he died from his injuries on Saturday evening.

"The police are not treating this incident as suspicious, and view it as a tragic accident."

She added that the case would be passed to health and safety officials as a matter of course. No one from the body or the industrial estate were available for comment yesterday, but further details of the investigation are expected today.
