ECCH’s Physiotherapy and Neurology team manned a stand in the hospital reception area to promote the importance of health, wellbeing and daily exercise to the public.

ECCH physiotherapy business support manager Rita Marjoram, who organised the day, said: “It’s really important that people realise how bad it is for their physical and mental health to sit at their desks all day.

“Some studies show that alternating between standing and sitting every 30 minutes throughout the day reduces blood sugar spikes by 11 per cent and reduces lower back pain by more than 30 per cent. If you can’t do that, just take a break from your desk and have a walk. You really feel better for it, even if it’s only for ten minutes.”

The event was part of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy‘s Workout at Work campaign, which aims to help improve physical and mental health in the workplace.
