A yacht and its two crew members were towed to safety after running aground off the Essex coast.

Thames Coastguard received a mayday call from The Caspian just before 8pm after the yacht ran aground eight miles south of Clacton.

Burnham Lifeboat crew were launched and followed two distress flares which had been fired from the stricken boat.

The Caspian was then towed safely to Burnham.
