Ipswich Town beat Morecambe 4-0 this evening. Andy Warren hands out his player ratings.

Christian Walton

A spectator throughout. But he will be happy with the clean sheet.

Harry Clarke

The former academy defender had waited a long time to make his senior Portman Road debut and, when it came, was excellent. He showed his strength, power and drive throughout, using all of those attributes in defence and attack in equal measure. Combined well with Burns and gave Morecambe something to worry about throughout. An excellent start.

Richard Keogh

Into the side for just his third league start for the club, alongside George Edmundson, and was solid throughout. He was good on the ball, walking it out and beginning attacks and did what was needed to keep Cole Stockton quiet throughout, as he did in the away game.

George Edmundson

In for a first league start since November, as Kieran McKenna reunited the partnership which won at Morecambe in October. Performed well throughout this game and looked solid at the base of the defence.

Leif Davis

The left-back's delivery from corners caused early damage to Morecambe, as he sent in the ball which led to Freddie Ladapo’s opener. Got up and down, linked well with Nathan Broadhead and caused Morecambe problems.

Sam Morsy

Such was Ipswich’s dominance in this game, they were able to take their skipper off just after the hour mark. He contributed well throughout his time on the pitch, looking to keep his side moving and drive through the middle of the pitch. 7

Lee Evans

Hit the post early on with a drive from range and spent the entirety of this game moving the ball around the pitch like we know he can do. Gave his side an excellent backbone and was an important factor in the wide players having so much joy.

Wes Burns

This was an excellent Wes Burns game. He’s not always hit the heights of last season during the current campaign but this performance met the mark and even pushed it beyond. He was a threat throughout, combined superbly with Clarke and produced a high quality of ball into the box, picking out Chaplin twice for goals. I can’t decide if he loses a mark or gains one for the Macarena celebrations. Came off at the break with a tight calf, but it’s not an issue the Town staff are worried about. 9

Conor Chaplin

Two more goals for the attacker, taking his season’s tally to 15 in all competitions. Both came from Wes Burns cut-backs and both were well-taken, on a night where he was always a threat to the opposition. Chaplin always works hard but seemed to put in an even bigger shift in this game, never stopping running and breaking up play well on plenty of occasions.

Nathan Broadhead

The new signing clearly adds something to this team, with his good touch, excellent movement and a desire to attack the box causing real problems throughout. Threaded through a brilliant pass to set up Ladapo’s second goal and had two of his own shots saved. A very good start.

Freddie Ladapo

Absolutely outstanding. The striker received a standing ovation as he left the field and rightly so, after an excellent performance. His best in an Ipswich shirt. He gave Town the perfect start with a neat finish and produced an even better one for his second, shooting in off of both posts. But it was his all-round play which made this such a good performance, with strength and work-rate coupled with superb link play making this a near-perfect night. Well played. 9

Kayden Jackson (for Burns, 46)

On at half-time and saw plenty of the ball down the right flank, looking to link up with team-mates and cross into the box.

Cameron Humphreys (for Morsy, 64)

On for the skipper and was full of energy in the middle of midfield, using the ball well while also having a couple of moments where he was caught out.

Kyle Edwards (for Broadhead, 64)

Some good minutes here for the attacker, who drove through the middle of the pitch on a number of occasions but couldn’t quite come up with an end product.

George Hirst (for Ladapo, 64)

Another outing from the bench for the Leicester loanee, who worked hard but didn’t have the chances Ladapo did in the first half. These minutes will do him good as he gets fully up to speed.

Marcus Harness (for Chaplin, 73)

Some neat touches from the attacker as he stepped off the bench and tried to create for his side. 6
