The summer transfer window has now shut, but there are plenty of former Town players who are still free agents. Ross Halls takes a look at which players are without a club...
JAMES ALABI
Town career: 2015-2016
Appearances: 1 Goals: 1
The 29-year-old forward was released by National League South Bath City this summer after joining them on a short-term contract in January.
Alabi has played for Chester, Tranmere, Dover (loan), Leyton Orient, Eastleigh (loan), Bromley and Maidstone United since leaving the Blues in 2016.
DOMINIC BALL
Town career: 2022-2024
Appearances: 35 Goals: 1
The 29-year-old midfielder left Ipswich this summer after his contract expired. He had played a supporting role in back-to-back promotions.

KEANAN BENNETTS
Town career: 2020-2021 (On loan from Borussia Mönchengladbach)
Appearances: 30 Goals: 1
The 25-year-old winger has left his most recent German side in SV Wehen Wiesbaden, who he joined last summer from Darmstadt 98.
Bennetts was unable to prevent them dropping to the third tier as he featured in their relegation play-off games against Jahn Regensburg. He may look to remain in Germany, having been playing there since 2018.
MACAULEY BONNE
Town career: 2021-2022 (On loan from QPR)
Appearances: 46 Goals: 12
The 28-year-old forward is without a club after he was released by League Two side Gillingham, who he joined on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic last summer.
Bonne scored five times in 31 appearances for the Gills, before spending the second half of last season on loan at Cambridge United in League One. He netted once in 16 games for the U's.
KEVIN BRU
Town career: 2014-2018
Appearances: 103 Goals: 4
The 35-year-old midfielder has been without a club since the start of 2024 after leaving Icelandic side ÍBV. He was managed there by former Town fans favourite Hermann Hreidarsson.
Bru is back in France, where he has started his coaching journey with Paris FC, but still wants to continue playing. Here's what he said in a recent interview with with us.
MUSTAPHA CARAYOL
Town career: 2018
Appearances: 8 Goals: 1
The 36-year-old winger departed Burton Albion after two seasons, having joined on a free transfer from Gillingham in September 2022.
Carayol went on feature 62 times for the Brewers, scoring three goals, as he helped them stay in League One in both campaigns. He looks set to remain playing.
JANOI DONACIEN
Town career: 2018-2014
Appearances: 127
The 30-year-old defender is still at the club as he continues his rehabilitation from groin surgery he underwent towards the end of last season.
Donacien made just four appearances for Town in 2023/24.
REKEEM HARPER
Town career: 2021-2023
Appearances: 19
The 24-year-old midfielder recently had his contract terminated by mutual consent at Burton Albion. He made 34 appearances for the Brewers last season.
Harper never quite nailed down a place at the Pirelli Stadium since joining from Ipswich last summer and will be looking to find a new club to restart his career.
JOSH HARROP
Town career: 2021 (On loan from Preston)
Appearances: 14
The 28-year-old forward is another player to have suffered relegation last season and is now a free agent after leaving Cheltenham Town.
Harrop joined the Robins in January on a deal until the end of the season but couldn't help prevent the drop to League Two after finishing 21st in the table.
TOMAS HOLY
Town career: 2019-2022
Appearances: 65
The Czech goalkeeper is looking for a new home after two campaigns with Carlisle United where he made over 50 appearances for the Cumbrians.
Holy helped them win promotion to League One in 2022/23, but lost his place last season as they were relegated back to the fourth tier.
TYREECE JOHN-JULES
Town career: 2022-2023 (On loan from Arsenal)
Appearances: 21 Goals: 3
The 23-year-old forward left Arsenal after his contract expired. He joined the club at eight but failed to make a senior appearance.
John-Jules spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Derby County in League One, but he only managed 14 appearances in all competitions due to quad and hamstring problems as the Rams won automatic promotion back to the Championship.
ALAN JUDGE
Town career: 2019-2021
Appearances: 91 Goals: 10
The Irishman is on the look out for his next club after a short spell at National League side Woking, having joined them in March.
Judge has had a tough few years with injuries. He suffered a triple rupture in his left knee in December 2022 while at Colchester United and underwent surgery to repair his ACL in March last year. He looks set to continue his career.
JONAS KNUDSEN
Town career: 2015-2019
Appearances: 155 Goals: 4
The Danish full-back has been without a club since the start of the year after his contract at Swedish champions Malmo expired in January.
Knudsen won three league titles and a domestic cup there, but suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the summer of 2021. He has since returned to full fitness.
FREDDIE LADAPO
Town career: 2022-2024
Appearances: 75 Goals: 25
The 31-year-old forward departed Portman Road by mutual consent on deadline day to find himself a new club.
Ladapo ended last season on loan at League One Charlton, where he scored once in 14 games. There has been whispers that he could be joining Bolton.
JAKE LIVERMORE
Town career: 2010-2011 (On loan from Spurs)
Appearances: 12
The 34-year-old midfielder left Championship side Watford after one season at Vicarage Road, having joined them on a free transfer from West Brom last summer.
Livermore made 32 appearances and scored three goals for the Hornets last season.
JON NOLAN
Town career: 2018-2022
Appearances: 70 Goals: 10
The 32-year-old midfielder was on trial at former club Shrewsbury Town this summer to prove his fitness under Paul Hurst but hasn't been offered a deal.
Nolan spent last season at Macclesfield in the Northern Premier League but struggled for minutes with the Silkmen and had fallen out of love with the game.
MATT PENNEY
Town career: 2021-2023
Appearances: 26 Goals: 1
The 26-year-old full-back is without a club since he was released by the Blues last summer.
Penney spent time on loan at Scottish Premiership side Motherwell and Charlton Athletic during the 2022/23 season, but hasn't played for another team since.
FREDDIE VESELI
Town career: 2013-2015
Appearances: 1
The 31-year-old defender is looking for his next club after leaving Turkish side Fatih Karagümrük, where he suffered relegation from the top flight last season.
Veseli left the Blues in the summer of 2016 to join Port Vale, before spells in Switzerland, France and Italy.
KANE VINCENT-YOUNG
Town career: 2019-2023
Appearances: 64 Goals: 2
The 28-year-old full-back was released by Wycombe Wanderers after his contract but remains at Adams Park to continue his rehabilitation.
Vincent-Young made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Chairboys last season but has been sidelined since February.
MARTYN WAGHORN
Town career: 2017-2018
Appearances: 46 Goals: 16
The 34-year-old forward is looking for his next club after his second spell at Derby ended.
Waghorn rejoined the Rams last summer following his release from Coventry City, scoring seven goals in 27 games as Paul Warne's side won automatic promotion back to the Championship.
CONNOR WICKHAM
Town career: 2006-2011
Appearances: 72 Goals: 15
The 31-year-old forward is once again looking for a new club after he finished his latest short-term contract at Charlton Athletic after joining Nathan Jones’ side in March.
Wickham scored once in four games for the Addicks in League One. He has played for five different clubs since leaving Crystal Palace in 2021.
BRANDON WILLIAMS
Town career: 2023-2024 (On loan from Man United)
Appearances: 17 Goals: 2
The 24-year-old full-back was released by Man United this summer after spending last season on loan at Town.
Williams last played for the Blues in December as he returned to Old Trafford for assessment.
