SUFFOLK'S Jamie Abbott of Fynn Valley and Adam Wainwright of Gainsborough, will represent the English Golf Union in Australia next month.

The pair will contest the Australian Foursomes Championship over 36 holes on March 5 followed by the 113th Riversdale Cup over 72 holes in Melbourne between March 7 and 10. This also incorporates an international team event.

The Riversdale Cup is the oldest tournament in Australia having been inaugurated in 1896.

No English player has ever won it, although Robert Steele was fifth and Ben Parker joint seventh two years ago.

Twenty-year-old Abbott, pictured, recently promoted to the Elite squad, is a former winner of the Henriques Salver for the best British under-20 player in the Brabazon Trophy.

He has also enjoyed top ten finishes in the Berkhamsted Trophy, Lagonda Trophy, South of England strokeplay and the Lee Westwood Trophy.

Wainwright, a 21-year-old from Lincolnshire, reached the last 16 in last year's English Amateur Championship.
