NABIL Abidallah is determined to have another crack at forcing his way into the Ipswich Town first team after a trial with Swiss side FC Thun left him cold, writes Derek Davis.

The diminutive Dutchman spent a week at the Laughter Stadium, playing in a trial game against Concordia Basel which ended in a 2-2 draw but decided the lowly Swiss side, where some of the squad a re part-time, was not right for him.

He said: "It was an enjoyable week, they were nice people and it was a good experience but it is not the right club for me. They are a small club and really my time there made me even more determined to work even harder to get into the Ipswich side.

"I will be back for pre-season training in July and my entire focus is on getting into the first team. I have been close to getting there on a few occasions and I still believe I can make it.

"There is a lot of competition for places in midfield but if I keep working I can force my way in."

Abidallah, now 20, was signed as a 17-year-old from the Ajax youth side and made his debut in the Premiership against Everton. He is one of half-a-dozen players who have been handed a free transfer by Joe Royle but he still has another year on his contract.

Like Martijn Reuser, Andy Marshall, James Pullen, Alun Armstrong and Finidi George, he will be back at Portman Road on July 2, when pre-season training starts. They could still be joined by Matteo Sereni and Ulrich Le Pen, who are currently out on loan to Brescia and Strasbourg respectively.
