A SMALL squad of West Suffolk AC athletes contested the third round of the Essex League at a wet and windy Southend.

Abby Marriott, winner of the Under 15 Girls race in the opening round couldn't quite match that performance but can pleased with third after being ill earlier in the week and getting entangled with some brambles during the race itself.

Zara McLoone and Helen Waters contested the Under 17 Womens race and McLoone showed her steadily improving form with an excellent 3rd. Waters too can be pleased with 11th in her non specialist event.

Andrew Ridley's form is also beginning to peak and a solid 4th in Under 17 Men shows he is on track for the major championships in February and March.

Last to go was Colin Ridley and he can be well please with a consistent 32nd in the Senior Men's race.

This Saturday, 2nd December attention turns to the Suffolk Schools County A meeting at Royal Hospital School, Holbrook where most of the West Suffolk AC athletes will be seeking qualification through to the next round at Framlingham College.

Sara Bird had her first race back since returning from a calf injury, at the UK Challenge in Liverpool and finished 49th from 120 starters.
