A round-up of the weekend’s SIL Senior Division games.

Senior Division Ipswich Valley Rangers 1 Achilles 10

Second-placed Achilles’ visit to bottom of the table, Ipswich Valley Rangers, resulted in a rout with the visitors scoring five goals in each half to win 10-1.

It is no secret that the hosts, after several years of success for their two adult teams, are suffering problems this season with both their Senior and Inter A teams languishing at the bottom of their respective tables.

As far as this game goes, a more than competent Achilles were quickly out of the trap and goals came at regular intervals, five in the first and five in the second half with just one reply albeit a fine effort by IVRs’ James Whatling, ironically, Achilles’ Chairman’s player manager for their Sunday League club, Queens FC.

Achilles’ marksmen were Keiron Donovan (3), Liam Hillyard (3), Gavin Van Oene, Andy Coote, David Grimwood, and Jack Middle.

Westerfield United 4 Capel Plough 2

Westerfield came from behind to defeat Capel 4-2 in a top-of-the-table clash.

A superb ball from Middlebrook put Webb clear and he rounded Banthorpe before firing into the net.

A mis-hit clearance from Sadler fell to Middlebrook who beat Banthorpe from 12 yards for 2-0.

Westerfield turned the game round after the interval with Swift heading in, and then three minutes later Allen scored from long-range.

S Horn curled into the far corner to give Westerfield the lead, before Swift completed the scoring in a game of two totally contrasting halves.

East Bergholt United 3

Stanton 2

A late winner from Kyle Jay gave Bergholt the points against a competent Stanton side.

Michael Campbell gave the visitors the lead on 10 minutes as he tackled ‘keeper Hammond as he was trying to clear a back pass, The scores were level midway through the half when Skeggs swung over a free kick and Garrod netted at the far post.

Fletcher reinstated Stanton’s lead, but Garrod scored again as both teams hit the post, with Jay scoring the late winner.

Wickham Market 0

Grundisburgh 2

Grundisburgh made it five wins from five with Chris Grey returning to Wickham to score twice.

Grey’s first came in the 28th minute when he found the bottom corner following a Beaton lay-off.

His second came three minutes into the second half as Fike’s throw in saw Matthews cut in to drive low and Grey deflected home into the bottom corner.

Bramford United 0

Ipswich Athletic 0

This fast-paced game lacked a cutting edge, with a goalless draw the result.

Both sides had chances, with Ben Golding going the closest for Athletic.
