AFC Sudbury manager Jamie Godbold is hoping for success in the Suffolk Premier Cup, and getting one over Felixstowe & Walton boss Kevin O’Donnell, tonight (7.45pm kick-off).

AFC, fourth in Ryman League Division One North, host the Seasiders in the second round of the competition, at the Wardale Williams Stadium.

Godbold was a winner of Suffolk FA’s top competition on more than one occasion with Lowestoft Town, and is determined to replicate the feat as a manager with the Yellows.

While promotion is the aim with the west Suffolk club, a successful run in the cup would also be welcome, according to Godbold, who comes up against O’Donnell’s third-placed Thurlow Nunn Premier Division outfit tonight.

“We played Felixstowe two seasons ago when I was manager of Kirkley & Pakefield and Kevin was in charge of Felixstowe and we lost all four games against them that season,” recalled Godbold.

“I have not got a great record against them, so it would be nice to start changing that on Tuesday.”

AFC reached the semi-final of the Premier Cup last season, losing in the last four to Whitton United, at Needham Market, and Godbold is determined for his team to taste that winning feeling in a final.

“Last year we were knocked out in the semi-final and we want to do better this season,” added Godbold.

“I won it a few times as a player and when you finish your career, you realise how successful you have been by the amount of trophies you have won.

“I want my players to have the same experience and I will be playing a full-strength team.”

Sudbury go into tonight’s game off the back of a 2-0 home win against Haringey Borough at the weekend, while the Seasiders drew 2-2 at home to Mildenhall Town.

“I was pleased with the three points and a good performance was important to us,” said the AFC manager.

“The only disappointment was that we didn’t make the most of our chances and it should have been a lot more on the day.”

Other Premier Cup games tonight (7.45pm): Brantham Athletic v Ipswich Wanderers, Lowestoft Town v Hadleigh United, Mildenhall Town v Haverhill Rovers, Whitton United v Needham Market
