A four-goal burst in the final 15 minutes of the first-half paved the way for a 5-2 victory over Walsham-le-Willows in Monday night’s final at Colchester United FC.

After defeating Dereham Town on penalties in last Friday’s Thurlow Nunn Youth League Cup Final, AFC Sudbury now stand one win away from completing a memorable treble this season.

AFC Sudbury now face Swaffham Town in the Thurlow Nunn League Championship play-off Final at Diss Town FC on Friday night.

Laws said: “This team have won everything and achieved just about everything they can at under-18 level this season and also took Swindon Town to extra-time in the second round of the FA Youth Cup.

“People like myself who work with these lads every day beat the drum for them because they are that good.

“I have worked with this age group for a long time and achieved a lot, but these are a great group with some special players and special characters.

“To be 5-1 up at half-time in a cup final shows how good they are, although Walsham did well to win the second-half.”

Laws, whose side also won this competition last season, added: “We have really enjoyed playing in this cup – we had a great semi-final against Woodbridge Town– and we have treated the competition with respect.

“We have been really well looked after tonight which has made it very special.”

Walsham-le-Willows Manager Alan Harris said: “We competed well apart from a crazy ten minutes towards the end of the first-half.

“I said to them at half-time to go out and win the second-half and that is exactly what they did.

“I am so proud of my players – I couldn’t be more proud of them as we gave as good as we got for most of the match.

“Our keeper (Alex Johns) deserves a mention as he was superb and Ryan Gibbs, who scored both our goals, showed why he is our star striker and a regular first-team player.”
