AFC Sudbury boss Mark Morsley admits there have been ‘far more pluses than minuses’, since he took over the job at King’s Marsh Stadium.

On Saturday, Morsley takes his team to Witham in a Bostik North fixture, looking to improve on a league run that has seen just one win in six.

Sudbury sit in 15th place in the table, 11 points above bottom-placed Romford, who will be the only team relegated from the division, should the Essex team stay there.

Morsley, however, is looking up not down, and although he was disappointed with his team’s defeat to Haringey Borough last week, he remains positive about the future.

“I was very disappointed with the work ethic of some of my players last weekend to be honest,” he said.

“Haringey came with a game plan to play counter-attacking football which is something I have done many times in previous successful campaigns and they out-thought us and out-worked us.

“However, looking at the bigger picture, no-one has hammered us in my first two months back, and there are far more pluses than minuses.

“Our ball retention is excellent in the main and some of the players I have promoted from the Academy are really finding their feet, with Kane Munday set to make his full first-team debut on Tuesday, had our game against Maldon & Tiptree gone ahead.

“I am also pleased that Ian Miller has joined us from Cambridge City to bring some additional on-pitch experience.”

Witham are level on points with Sudbury, but have played two games more.

The Spa Road outfit had an unbeaten five-game run in November which saw them climb the table, but have not won in three – last week they drew with Soham.

“Witham away is a very different challenge for us, but it will give me the opportunity to work on the type of tactics that saw us do very well at Hornchurch and Potters Bar where a narrow defeat and a draw should have really been a win and a draw,” Morsley said.

“Witham have been inconsistent but we have had our scout watch them and if we are at it, we could give them a good game and get a result.”
