Stowmarket Town boss Rick Andrews says he sees no reason why his in-form striker Josh Mayhew cannot reach the 40-goal mark this season, writes Alex Moss.
The former Brightlingsea Regent forward, who joined the Old Gold and Blacks from Bury Town in the summer, continued his fine run of goalscoring by netting all four in Stow’s 4-2 win against Ely City at Greens Meadow on Saturday.
Mayhew’s four-goal haul took his tally for the season to 22 and Andrews believes that figure could potentially be doubled come the end of the campaign.
“The boy’s a natural goalscorer and if he keeps himself fit why can’t he get 40 goals?” said Andrews, who now prepares his side for a home clash with Hadleigh United tomorrow night (7.45pm).
“I actually told him before he signed that I’d make him the top goalscorer in the league, just because of the players that I’ll surround him with.”
