Angry Aidy rues missed opportunity

COLCHESTER United boss Aidy Boothroyd was left seething after his side's 3-2 defeat at Bristol Rovers.

After his side's promotion hopes were dented by a 3-2 defeat at the Memorial Stadium, Boothroyd said: "I can't remember ever being this annoyed since I've been here.

"This is really one of those games we should be winning if we have got serious aspirations of getting an automatic promotion place.

"The atmosphere was flat, a few of their players looked like they were carrying knocks, but we were nowhere near ruthless enough.

"We should have absolutely crushed them, but if you don't defend properly then you get what you deserve."

The U's almost staged a dramatic comeback in stoppage time after Kayode Odejayi pulled a goal back with a minute to go, but Boothroyd admits that by then the damage had been done.

"We shouldn't have to throw people forward at the end like that. By then the game should be sorted; it should be done and dusted.

"I don't want to take anything away from Bristol Rovers though because they put on a really good show for their manager today.

"They were very humble when we beat them earlier in the season, so I will go and see Paul (Trollope) now and do the same."
