MICHAIL Antonio struck down Chesterfield with a cracking finish in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Chesterfield.

However, the Reading loanee could not pull the wool over the eyes of referee Dean Mohareb, in terms of his attempts to waste a little time during the second half.

Antonio, who gave the Spireites a torrid time with his non-stop running, was booked for his play-acting antics near the touchline.

The 21-year-old was genuinely hurt by a late challenge, and had won a free-kick. He also hobbled off shortly afterwards with a sore knee, a direct result of that incident, but he admitted that he had indeed tried to run down the clock for a few seconds.

Antonio explained: “I got kicked, I stumbled off the pitch, but then I’ve rolled back on trying to waste some time.”

“I’ve basically got up, but it was a bit too sore so I had to go down and then got a yellow card again.

“He did kick me, and to be honest it did hurt.

“He caught me on the knee and it’s still sore now,” added Antonio.

Even though he didn’t last the 90 minutes, Antonio had already done enough damage to inflict a rare home defeat on Chesterfield.

“I feel I am getting better and better as the season goes on. I’m getting sharper and stronger, and getting to know the game a bit more,” explained Antonio.
