Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom has fired an ominous warning in the direction of Ipswich Town, ahead of the teams’ meeting at Oakwell on Saturday.

The Reds have been a surprise-package in the Championship this season, following their promotion from League One, and are sat in 11th place with 10 games to go.

However, they have only won one in their last eight, were beaten 2-1 at QPR on Tuesday, and are in danger of letting an impressive season fizzle out.

Heckingbottom said: “These players are playing to show they belong here, that they belong in the Championship. The players here, those on loan and those out of contract have to play to impress.

“A lot of the work we’ve been doing and the work we are going to be doing, it’s about the next step. Who is going to be in the 18, who can play regularly? They won’t be allowed to rest on their laurels.”
