THE Darren Bent transfer saga took a massive step forward tonight when Charlton accepted a £16.5m offer for the former Blues striker from Tottenham Hotspur.
Bent has been given permission to speak to the Premiership club but there are no stumbling blocks anticipated and he should sign after agreeing personal terms and completing a medical.
The deal will eventually be worth around £2.7m to Ipswich Town who have a sell-on clause for Bent but the deal between the London clubs is based on a hefty initial transfer fee topped up by how the England striker does at White Hart Lane.
